Hey all you cool chicks and chickens!

Thanks for stopping by. I would like to introduce myself.  I am Jennifer Burgan, a mother, wife, teacher, skin care lover and crazy chicken lady!  I love to be with my family, cook, play with my chickens and take care of my skin.  You can expect to read about these topics and more in this blog.

I have been dreaming of starting a blog to share my experiences with other women (and men too, can’t leave them out).  We all struggle in life and each of our struggles are different.  I hope to bring some value to your life and inspire you to be all you can!

I grew up on a family farm where I learned to work hard and be grateful for what I was given.  When I asked my mom if we were rich, she would always say we were rich in love.  That’s all that really matters, right?  My mom always pushed me to be better and to grow.  She has been gone now for 15 years.  There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think about her and the wisdom she left with me.

Besides my mom, dad and brother, I was blessed to have four grandparents to help mold and shape me when I was younger. All but one of my grandparents is gone now. I have lots of stories to share about growing up and visiting their homes and farms. I really was a very lucky little girl and had no idea just how lucky I was.

I’m not really sure where my interests in chickens came from. My dad hated chickens so we never even talked about them, other than how much he hated them. Evidently they pooped on his car when he was a teenager and he never got over it. I just decided that I wanted chickens. My husband shared my dad’s affinity for chickens so it took me a while to convince him that I needed chickens. I asked for chickens for Christmas for two years before I got my first flock. He had the local vocational woodworking class make me my first coop – and I drug him in hook, line and sinker! Lots have happened with my chickens over the years. I’ll save that for later. Let’s fast forward to now!

The idea for the name of this blog came to me yesterday as I was painting my chicken coop. I purchased pink paint a while back, but never really had the time to paint, then winter came and it was too cold to paint. Now that we are all in quarantine and the weather is nicer I had no more excuses. In the mean time I had also decided to name my coop “The Chick Inn” after I saw several signs and post on Pinterest. I thought that was very clever and a great name. So as I was painting it struck me that I should somehow include pink in the name of my blog. And that is how The Pink Chick Inn came to me. My chickens will live in The Pink Chick Inn and that’s where all the eggs will come from!

I just purchased 15 chicks from the Rural King a few miles away. I picked up several different breeds to expand my egg color. I can’t wait to see what my chickens will lay. I have Starlight Green Eggers, Polish Chickens, Blue Laced Red Wyandottes, Sapphire Gems and Midnight Black Majesty Marans. I also have several more on order coming from a Hatchery in Cincinnati, OH later this month.

I am egg-cited to begin sharing my journey with you! I hope you stick around and share all of my ups and downs along the way. I hope to inspire you with imperfection along the way.
